Brief Post Match Comments Man Utd v Birmingham City

I didn’t see the game, infact I only heard the 1st half.

I’ve just started putting a model together that I bought on ebay. It’s a model of the 1921 Vickers Vimy Mk IV.

The first designs for the Vimy were prepared in 1917 and the prototype flew in November of that year. Engine troubles and shortages delayed development so that no Vimy actually flew operationally during the first World War.

The most famous Vimy was that used by Alcock and Brown in 1919 for the first direct trans Atlantic flight from Newfoundland to Ireland.

Engines: Two 360 h.p. Rolls Royce Eagle VIII.
Max Speed: 103 m.p.h. at sea level.
Service ceiling: 7,000 ft.
Armament: Four 0.303 Lewis guns, bomb load 4,800 lbs comprising of 112 lb, 230 lb and 250 lb bombs.

The kit itself was produced in 1969 and it was one I did as a kid! I decided to start it while I was listening to the football.

We lost 5-0!

  1. Nice one Kev , love it ! there’s more to life than football.
I’ve just watched us on Football First , ….we’re down …… it won’t even be close , who’s coming with us ?…That’s the question , I suppose Wolves plus one other from three.
But !! ..can we grab some glory from Wednesday nights clash ?……. Er, No…….. in fact the supreme irony will be , West Ham will go through , and take our ( fantasy ) place in the final and we’ll jump into their place at the bottom of the league , as quick as we possibly can , seems kind of fitting really when you think about it .

  2. I think Alex could be charged for fielding a weakened team. The correct replacement for Dann is Jiranek, Ridgewell should stay at full back. The substitutes Jerome, Gardener and Larsson are all obviously first choice players and the FA may get interested. Despite his reputation, as opposed to his work rate , Hleb is not a first team player , neither is Mutch or Fahey or Derbyshire. Alex is obviously thinking about West Ham, but losing is a habit and one we need to get rid of pretty quickly. Come on Blues start believing you can win.

  3. It was a weakened team. As soon as the players saw the team sheet they must have known eck was willing to sacrifice the game hence 5-0. The players are not going to believe they can get anything from the game if the manager has already thrown in the towel. Was it the right decision? Well, that depends on how the likes of Bowyer, Jerome and Garnder play on weds night and ultimately if we go thro to wembley. One thing for sure weds is a big, big game. Bring it on….

  4. One eye on the semi, ithink but I have been saying for a while now that this reminds me of when Eck first arrived with us….. drawing too many games at home and losing the rest.

Again I say it Eck is not the answer! Bring on Big Sam….

  5. I am 78 living in canada and for 65 years have supported Blues. My grandfather helped paint the main stand back in the 1900s. I have seen all of the changes. All of the comings and goings. Spent a fortune in Air fares visiting Brum and I have almost had enough!. Alex have the guts to insist on enough cash to get the right guys or tell these investors to get off the pot. Stop thinking of your job. Supporters come 1st. We pay the wages. We take the crap from others. Ive almost had enough and there are lots more too. The Buck stops with you. Wheres your Scottish guts? wheres your pride?. Stand up or get out the kitchen.

  6. Not quite as experienced as Harry above you but I am 61 and supported the Blues for 54 years now living in the USA. I remember watching the likes of Eddie Brown, Peter Murphy, Dick Neal etc.

I am also a bit disappointed with Alex M he seems to have gone the same way as SB went, became afraid of his job so went 4-5-1 to try to insure against losing but only had a half a chance of winning even at home. Take Villa last week they were on a downer from their previous results so why would we not play 2 strikers and hit them from the start. Oh no not us lets pack the midfield and stiffle the game and hope for the draw…..at home for godsake against someone lesser than ourselves !!

Not hopeful of new signings but do agree with Pannu that the signings that have been made are not given a chance. Why was Michel not given a decent chance ? Why isn’t Jiranek given a chance in the position he was bought for ie: cover for Dann and Johnson. Valles impressed me in what I saw pre-season but not given even a sniff (I know he’s injured now). Why not give Kev 30 minutes each game instead of the 5 minutes he has been given now and then. After the happenings of the last week I think team morale will have been affected and don’t think we can beat West Ham by 2 clear goals on Wednesday. Penalty shoot out is the best we can hope for.

  7. What a finish!. Blues 3 W ham 1. Guts Guts Guts , the blues played their Hearts out. Probably the most thrilling game at St Andrews in a decade. Harry Robinson Canada.

  8. What a load of Chinese cookie. ‘Carson Young still intends to expand St Andrews’. You cant do that kind of thing for a couple of bowls of rice. It needs money money!. He cant afford a decent forwards weekly wage. He needs to get off his bubbly pipe, stick his Abacus up his Arm and stop the bull sh–t. Harry Robinson Canada.

  9. Bham1 Stoke 0 Hey these guys have got guts. Congrats to the manager for sticking to his guns [ Have I said something nice about Alex before ?] not that I can recall! Alex reads the game well, the team stays organised, doesn’t panic and never gives in. I’m proud of em. Harry Robinson Canada.
