Blues Player of 2010

The year is nearly over and like almost everyone else we will be looking back on the year from a Blues perspective.  2010 was not a vintage year in terms of results (Only seven league wins so far) but it did see us retain our Premier League place with a best ever finish.  Add to that good runs in both the FA and Carling Cups there have been a good few reasons for Bluenoses to smile this year.

But who has been the best player of 2010.  I’ve put together this shortlist and you can vote in the poll on the right.

Barry Ferguson

Our midfield general who runs the show with a calming quality and a good range of passing.  Scored the winning goal in our excellent FA Cup win at Goodison Park.

Cameron Jerome

Our top scorer in 2010 with ten league goals.  Still divides opinion but nobody else has been able to come in and take his place.

Craig Gardner

Joined in January and instantly became a fans favourite due to his all workrate and goals from midfield. Is our top scorer so far this year.

Roger Johnson

A rock at the back who would probably tackle a horse if it stopped a goal.  How he has never been selected for England is a mystery to us all.

Scott Dann

Roger’s partner who has helped form a great defensive partnership.  We would be lost without them.

Liam Ridgwell

Not a natural left back but has made the position his own this year.  Has scored a few important goals as well.

Ben Foster

Only joined in the summer but has so far proved to be a very good signing. We would be in the bottom three if it wasn’t for him.  Some of his saves this year have been amazing.

  1. I gave my vote to Roger Johnson for his great attitude. I’m living in Hong Kong so I can only watch the TV games, but I saw him and the other guys live playing a friendly last summer and I remember how Roger shouted out loud with foul mouth to the other guys that they should be careful with the pitch because it wasn’t exactly St Andrew’s pitch (even if the HK Stadium pitch today is probably much better than St Andrew’s).
Barry Ferguson is of course also a great guy of 2010, and if the poll would have been limited to the 2010/2011 season, I would have definitely given my vote to Ben Foster. What a great goalkeeper he is!

  2. Has to go to Roger Johnson for me. Future captain, rock at the back and just leads my example. Would be an absolute disaster if we lost him.
