Blues v Brentford League Cup Preview

I know it’s late and I know it’s short, but a quick preview.

Alex McLeish has stated that he intends to put out a strong side tonight. Despite the Premier League being important, this competition is one we COULD win and I think that the club are taking it seriously.

It was announced earlier that the youngster Akwasi Asante will be in the squad for tonight’s game. Asante scored five goals for the youth team recently and is seen as a real prospect.

Craig Gardner has finished his suspension, but Stuart Parnaby and Martin Jiranek are reported to be out.

I remember ten or so years ago, that Brentford were a bit of a bogey side. However we did beat them in the area final of the Leyland Daf Cup which we went on to win and also beat them to automatic promotion under Barry Fry’s record breaking season.

I guess we should win tonight, however they put up a fantastic performance in the last round when they knocked out Everton on penalties. They shouldn’t be under estimated! They are struggling scoring goals and so if we get ahead we should go on to win HOWEVER, if they get a goal it could be a scrap.

Either way I’m predicting a narrow scoreline with the Blues shading it by the odd goal.

  1. I’d love to see Redmond and Asante get a chance from the bench. Wouldn’t it be nice if the answer to our goalscoring problems came from within our junior ranks and cost us nothing!
