Blues have really started to move in the transfer market. Since the transfer ban was lifted, Lee Clark has quietly gone about his business and brought in three new players to boost our very small squad. Sky are currently reporting that we are about to add a fourth in Crystal Palace’s Darren Ambrose. Despite the doom and gloom merchants telling us otherwise it looks we do have a little money to spend; although at the moment that is mostly going on wages rather than fees. That is not uncommon in the Championship.
If signed, Ambrose will add to Peter Lovenkrands, Hayden Mullins and David Lucas. Lucas will just be a cheap third choice keeper who will see little action but the others are quality signings at this level. Mullins was in Reading’s midfield for the latter part of last season and Lovenkrands will add flexibility in the attacking positions. If Ambrose signs he will fill the gap left by Jordon Mutch as an attacking central midfielder. His best position may not be in the centre but with Chris Burke making the right hand side position his own he may have to adapt.
Other rumours floating about include the loan signing of England U19 striker Benik Afobe from Arsenal. He has played for Lee Clark before at Huddersfield and is highly rated with a lot of pace and power. Nothing will happen quickly on this one though as he has yet to return from London after the U19 European Championship. There has also been talk today of a move for Paul Scharner who like Lovenkrands has turned us down before but is now available. I expect if signed it would be as a defender rather than in midfield where he played for Wigan. On the other side of the coin the rumours of Curtis Davies going to Norwich have resurfaced. I don’t know how much substance there is in this or whether it’s just lazy journalism.
Has anyone else heard of any other rumours they’d like to share?
We’re also looking at a Scotland international called Scott Robertson. Great blog by the way 🙂
I also understand Blues want to take Norwich striker Vaughan on loan but are wanting Norwich to pay most of his wages, i think they will see this as bait to land Curtis Davies. Great signings by Blues so far.
Is Asante still at the club?? Cant find any reference to him on the BCFC site. I think its had a mini reshuffle. If so…isnt now a great time to ease him up??? I am gagging to see him play on a Saturday afternoon…
@bumpyfunk, yes Asante is still at the club.
