Paul “Gabbie Cabbie” Collins sent this update after the weekend.
Birmingham City Ladies got off to a winning start as the FA WSL kicked off the 2nd half of the season. BBC WM broadcast their saturday afternoon show from The DCS Stadium Stratford upon Avon in front of 465 paying fantastic and raucous fans.
Dunia Susi opened the scoring early doors with a header then after Karen Carney was pulled down in the box the leagues
leading scorer Rachel Williams superbly tucked away the spot kick to give top of the table city a 2 nil half time lead. The 2nd half we saw our opponents Doncaster Rover Belles come into the game a bit more playing some decent football at times but just as they were getting into their stride the Magnificent Rachel Williams put us 3 up with a diving header Kenny Burns would have been proud of.
The PA system worked a treat with only a hand full of complaints off our neighbours and as there ain’t no stopping us now blasted out the girls headed to the changing room for a rendition of The Birmingham City Ladies song. I was lucky enough to be standing in between the two dressing room doors and i have to say what a noise and what a team spirit.
Mr Blue Sky was still shinning as I left and I have to say still buzzing and looking forward to thursday 3rd August when we take on Everton Ladies. For more information on the game and the ladies click onto the Blues Ladies Website. You can follow the girls on facebook, twitter or on the WSLl highlight programme on ESPN Tuesday evenings at 6.30 and this week Blues ladies are on live at Bristol Acadamy kick off 7.45pm.
Until next time KRO!!!
