Post Derby Match Thoughts

I’m sure Baz will do a proper match report, but I want to make a few comments.

I wasn’t looking forward to the match as much as I was a few weeks ago. They have improved under Bruce and the “new manager lift” couldn’t have come at a worse time for us. Obviously with a couple of poor results for us, and a couple of good results for them I feared a defeat.

Over all we were the better side and they only had one chance, which – to be fair – they took well. We gave the ball away too often after they scored, and couldn’t get any momentum going. Second half it was all Blues, Cotts had an immediate impact when he got on, Davis took the goal well. He was my man of the match, he played well today.

We really should have won, with some of the good chances in the 2nd half Maghoma, Adams and Donaldson all should have done better, but particularly Donaldson who if he hadn’t shinned it and he had used his foot – we should have had another goal.

Credit to them though, they hung on and even had a sniff at the end. Also credit to our fans who were awesome throughout.

Hopefully we can build on that performance and get another run going.

Post publish edit. I want to wish Wiggins a speedy recovery. The injury looked bad, but hopefully it isn’t. He has played well for us in that position and hardly put a foot wrong today.

The challenge on him from the defender was deliberate in my opinion, and if the ref had seen it from the angle of the tv, he’d have been off. Other than that, the game was played in a decent spirit.

  1. If you’re right about the challenge on Wiggins, it should be retrospective action from the FA. We all would have accepted a point based on our recent performances and their resurgence. It keeps us in touch with the playoffs, and Villa won’t be happy with their point as it doesn’t stave off the fact they only have three wins in 16 to date. We march on. KRO.

  2. thought the fans were pure class today I thought the villa were really poor and Bruce has a big job on his hands best wishes to wiggins looked a sold full back kro
