This weekend I was away visiting friends in Ukraine. Although I had wifi access for some of the time, I didn’t really pay attention to the news. I had saw that we had lost to another poor side. (Yeah I know, we aren’t exactly brilliant), but what I mean is if we want to at least stay in this league, let alone finish higher up – then we have to be beating the likes of Bolton. Anyway, when I saw the result, I did wonder if Clark would be sacked.
As a club we have always been very loyal to managers. I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Barry Fry is the previous manager to be sacked. The club has always given the manager time to build their side and time to get that team playing. Many people have been calling for Clark’s head from early in his tenure, but for me the club has got it right.
Last season, if our away form had been our home form, I don’t believe he would have had so much stick. The end of the season with the great escape, gave a brief lift in hope that we could kick on this season. However I had thought that Clark HAD to get a better return at home. Although we started reasonably, the fact that many of our home games have been against teams around us, and we failed to win, sealed his fate.
So here we are with the club looking for a replacement. Now normally, this would be an exciting time, with names being suggested and many discussions about the positives and negatives about possible new managers. However, I can’t get excited. I fear the difficult financial position we are in, (not desperate but definitely difficult), will make it harder to attract someone of sufficient quality. I am concerned that the uncertainty around possible new ownership, will put some candidates off and may even put us in a poor bargaining position for a deal for a new guy.
I hope I am wrong, but wanted to record my concerns.
What do you think? Who would you accept as our new manager?
It’s Lee CLARK not CLARKE!
Yep I know, a genuine error. The article content had his name spelt correctly, but when you have “Clarke’s” as family members, it is an understandable mistake.
So now you have corrected my one mistake, what are your thoughts on the future?
Added a poll. The old one was out of date.
Does it matter comes in now ?? This lot sold every player worth anything and then we were left with attracting kids, free transfers and oveer the hill players !! We pay Nout intodays terms so anyone with half a brain would steer away from us !!
like Quite a few others I would like to see chris hughton back as he managed to get the best out of players, was good tactically and good with the press. some fans think he walked out on us but all he did was accept the offer of what he thought was a better job like anyone of us would do.
why do we always shop at the co op ….we should be talking to tony pulis … I understand that young managers have to be given a chance but us supporters need to be shown that the management WANT the club moving upwards not sideways ,we don’t want always to be a stepping stone
