We’ve all seen the pictures and some of you will have been caught up in the idiocy of the last few nights in the West Midlands. The police are doing the best they can but are overstretched trying to cover a large area. In London things have calmed down a bit but all midweek games have been postponed and there is talk of calling off the weekend games as well.
On Saturday we play Coventry City in what is the closest thing we’ll have to a derby this year. While there is no serious history of trouble (Although I remember it kicking off at the Ricoh Arena in 2006) it will still require a lot of policing. Should the game be postponed to give West Midlands police a much needed break? On one hand this could be considered unnecessary as it is played during the day but trouble makers may try to take advantage of the situation. I personally think it should go ahead as we need to return to normal as quickly as possibly. Hopefully things will calm down from tonight so a decision will not have to be made.
I’ve added a poll so tell us what you think.
Stay safe everybody.

Whos more scary, 30000 football fans, or 400 kids?
We should be adult enough to self police this week.
Imagine annoying tens of thousands of fans!!!
I’m annoyed and bewildered by the Police’s actions or lake of . Imagine the same amount of people causing mayhem at a footie match there would be no hesitation to charge with battons hitting anybody in the way ( regardless of age or gender ) closley followed by the dogs.
Bring in the army blast them with water cannons catch them and for the good of all LOCK THEM AWAY !!!.We live in a society run by to many so called do gooders.
Agree the game should (and hopefully will, go ahead). I disagree that we need to return to normality. Normality is a return to corrupt and dangerous police, ever greater gaps between rich and poor and collusion by the press. And before someone accuses me of ‘do-gooding’, I don’t support rioters robbing off (or making people) worse off than they are, but neither do I support an economic system that means if your born in the underclass you’ll stay in the underclass and cops killing people then lying about it (Iain Tomlinson, Jean Charles de Menezes and now Mark duggan), and then beating up protestors at a vigil,. We would be rightly furious if a Blues fan was killed in this way…
Got to agree, to many matches already, cant afford to have this one put back, cant have the robbing scum destroying our football.
any trouble at the match, the police should not stand back like they have in the city centers, they should draw battons and use mace sprays and give these little oiks a good pounding. far better than the ref using yellow and red cards
Cas…. you just gave me an idea. Maybe the referees should have a baton and instead of a red card they give the player a pounding when he commits a bad offence. A yellow card results in a clip around the ear.
Colin West you should be writing for the Gaurdian, you left wingers are a disgrace, you always find a excuse for the theiving scum and its always the Government, we are reaping the result of 13yrs of your Labour party, there’s no room for your party policitical broardcast on a BLUES FOURUM so SOD OFF.
Dug, if you disagree with people using Blues forums to put forward their political opinions (which I agree is inappropriate) and their left-wing views, I suggest for consistency you don’t use the same forum to put forward your own right-wing views.
molari, if you’re going to spout common sense, you can… Erm… Carry on doing it 🙂 I do think there’s a point to be made, football fans have been treated worse than the looters in the past. Police should have done more, to prevent the scenes we’ve seen, but there’s a sense that mistakes have been noted, lessons learned.
