West Ham vs Birmingham – Brief Post Match Thoughts

What a great and very important result.  With Wigan and Wolves winning yesterday it was not looking good so today’s result was massive.  Now we are sixteenth and still have two games in hand on most of the sides around us.  With three home games to come we now have a chance to move away from trouble and into mid-table.

It wasn’t a vintage performance but we were very solid in defence and kept all of West Ham’s strikers at bay.  I wasn’t sure about the substitution of Larsson for Jerome but it turned out to be inspired as he put in a great ball for Zigic to head home.  We had to hang on a bit in the last ten minutes but we kept clear chances to a minimum.   These are the sort of games we need to be winning and I’m very proud of the boys today.  Special mention goes to Roger Johnson who was back to his dominating best.

Well done Blues!

  1. I only saw the 2nd half. But the following points are key for me:

    1. We didn’t concede before scoring.

    2. Another Zigic goal, the confidence is building which can only be good.

    3. By winning, we move out of the bottom 3 and have a better GD and games in hand.

    4. More points dropped by West Ham, who are relegation rivals so obviously I’d prefer us winning than them.
