Why can’t we do that against the teams around us??? If we had showed that commitment in a few more games, we wouldn’t be hovering where we are.
Anyway, tonight. I missed the first 20 minutes but from what I saw – we definitely gave a good account of ourselves. On twitter, non Blues fans were calling our football negative, but what else can we do other than trying to out compete teams like United and Chelsea? We don’t have the same quality. 451 was right, and everytime a United player had the ball someone was snapping at their heels.
Foster pulled off a good save in the 1st but was untroubled other than that. There was a very unsavoury incident where United could have gone down to 10, I thought the player was fortunate not to get sent off for raising his arms. But to be fair, the match had been played in a decent spirit. Giggs should have been booked too and we had a decent penalty shout turned down, (again!). Actually, the ref was shocking tonight.
I thought the back 4 looked solid and Dave did well on the left. CJ didn’t stop running. He doesn’t find it easy as 1 up front, but I thought he did ok. Bowyer and Ferguson were immense.
In the 2nd I thought United were the better side over all and their goal was class involving Giggs and Berbatov. A few minutes later it should have been 2-0 but Berbatov hit the post.
One thing I would like to mention is the Seb Larsson sub. I thought that Alex was spot on with his subs tonight, however Larsson gave him a mouthful as he came off the pitch. This is a TEAM game Seb. (Edit – I’ve amended this. On reflection I was probably more harsh than I needed to be. Kev)
Dave and CJ went off as Alex bought on Ziggy and KP. We looked useful on the break and there was growing belief as the half went on.
Then with just a few minutes left the ball came in, Zigic knocked the ball down, (yes with his arm), and Bowyer stuck it in. 1-1. On balance, United definitely showed more class and had more chances but we deserved that point for our sheer commitment and effort.
Out of the bottom 3 and a game against the Gooners next. Would be nice to do a sort of hatrick and take a point off them too!
great result lads… why do you always lift your game against the big boys then let us down against the likes of the dingles ?
Totally agree, hence my 1st paragraph. The bottom 8 are taking points off each other all the time – we HAVE to improve our record against those sides.
