Seb Larsson’s Greatest Hits

This week Sebastian Larsson left the club after almost five years.  While his performances were not always great I think overall his time with us has been a success and I wish him the best for the future.  He joined us in August 2006 as one of a trio of players on loan from Arsenal.  His loan was turned into a permanent move the following January and he went on to make a total of 157 appearances and score 19 goals.

So what were his best moments in a Blues shirt.  Here are my top five in reverse order.

5.  Saturday 19th August 2006 vs Crystal Palace

This was Seb’s first goal for the club and proved to be the winner.  In the 92nd minute he hit a sweet right footed shot past the keeper to send Blues to the top of the table.

4.  Saturday 26th April 2008 vs Liverpool

Seb’s trademark was of course the free kick and this was one of his best.  A curler into the top right hand corner from just outside the net gave Pepe Reina no chance.  This put Blues 2-0 and at the time it looked like securing our Premiership place.

3.  Saturday 5th August 2009 vs Wigan Athletic

Seb went one better in this game by scoring two free kicks to turn a 1-0 half time deficit into a 3-2 victory.

2.  Sunday 2nd December 2007 vs Tottenham

In Alex McLeish’s first game in charge Blues looked to have secured a decent draw at White Hart Lane but Seb had other ideas.  Picking up the ball from a cleared corner twenty-five yards out he hit an unstoppable right footed shot that gave the keeper no chance and Blues all three points.

1.  Saturday 28th April 2007 vs Sheffield Wednesday

Needing a win for promotion ten man Blues were hanging on to a 1-0 lead when Seb picked up the ball near the half way line.  He then started to run and just kept going, beating a couple of defenders and slotting past the keeper.  Mass delirium in St Andrews followed.  Blues went on to be promoted the following day when Derby County failed to win.
