Wigan v Blues Brief Post Match Thoughts

Another one half performance, and it will be that which will result in us playing Europa League football as a Championship side next season.

We should have been at least 2 up in the 1st half but poor defending, a combination of Foster and Davies, gave Wigan an undeserved equaliser after a Ridgewell goal.

The 2nd half was all Wigan, and they totally deserve the three points. We will get what we deserve on our recent league performances, relegation.

  1. Worst goals for in the league says it all! Lost to Newcastle baggies and Wigan means we are only going one way sadly down

  2. A win at home to Bolton would change attitudes I’m sure, but wether we will get that win now i’m not so sure. Nevertheless for the next two weeks we will all have to stew on the fact we’re in 19th and are heading in only one direction. Gutted.

  3. IF and I say IF we are to stay up – we need to win our remaining home games. The trouble is, it is no longer in our own hands as the teams above us just need to keep winning. The problem for us is all of them have started hitting some form.

  4. The League Cup euphoria seems a long time ago now, back to reality! Bottom line is we are simply not good enough, we are shipping goals at an alarming rate, still not scoring enough or creating much and the fight seems to have gone all together. Big Eck looked a pale and worried man on the after match interview with it seems no answers, if we had won a penalty, if we hadn’t switched off, Wigan were good blah blah blah! We were playing Wigan for God’s sake, they hadn’t scored for 4 games so one goal should have been enough, but no we still manage to ship 3 albeit one was disallowed.

Fortress St. Andrews is no more! The 4 5 1 system that has yielded just 14 goals in 15 home games is the reason we will go down and also the reason for our pathetic home gates! Everyone keeps talking about there is plenty of time left, games in hand etc. but seriously, we have lost 3 (2 at home) must win games against teams around us, just where are all these wins (we have won just 7 in the last 39 Premiership games!) coming from? Anyone?

  5. Blues always play better when the odds are against them. We’ll survive. Destiny IS in our hands (though only just). FACT – If we win every remaining match, we’ll stay up. Logically, then, our destiny is in our own hands.
    Keep Right On.

  6. i don’t get to see Blues very often due to work commitments and where i live (south west wales) i drove the 444 miles round trip cause this was the most important game of the season so far forget the euphoria of the carling cup nice as it was i said before the final that continuing in the Prem was more important as its our ‘bread and butter’ so off i went to Wigan i totally agree with everything in your Blog, and for the life of me i can’t see we’ve got that is going to make a difference come the end of the season, i hope and pray we can get out of this.

  7. i agree this is not looking good: the old story – one has to beat the teams around you and sadly Blues are making an art form of losing to them. The point Steve makes is quite right – we simply aren’t hitting the net enough and must start doing so, like right now. And I agree with mortonsblue – scrap 4-5-1 it: has been a disaster. Still, the bottom third of the table is still so close and this has been such an odd season that anything can happen, and i am keeping the faith: KRO.

  8. We can talk all day about the whys and wherefores , but the simple fact that has ( already ) sealed our fate is , we CANNOT score goals , thus we can’t beat ANYBODY ! and now we’re letting teams score past us at an alarming rate .

Result : Championship ( and all that GOES with it – Foster ,Dann ,Johnsonn, Bentley , Martins , we could end up like Coventry at this rate ! remember them ? )
