BCFC have announced that GR has signed a new contract along with his backroom staff. This is absolutely fantastic news. The team have slowly but surely been improving since he took over after that infamous mauling by Bournemouth. Actually I think it should be said, that although we lost to them again recently, our performance was a really good one and we deserved more than we ended with. They of course are an even better side than when they beat us 8-0.
Gary has slowly changed the playing side from what was, to be fair, a rather disorganised team with players out of position and looking like they had never met each other let alone played together!
I know that we have had poor performances, but the trend IS upward and the recent victory at Derby is a good indicator of the amount of improvement so far. Gary and his staff, have got the squad playing pleasant football and instilled a never say die attitude which was somewhat lacking in recent times. (Maybe the last day of the season at Bolton being the exception).
There has been mild chitter chatter of possible interest in GR for higher profile jobs, so a new contract gives the club some security at least in the sense that IF he IS poached, financially we would benefit. That said, I don’t want him to leave. I would love to see him get us promoted, and with our present position – who says we shouldn’t think about the possibility this year? It is starting to feel like the 2008/9 season where we came from a long way back to sneak into the play-offs and produce that moment that still gives me goosebumps, “Carter for the Premiership ……..THE PREMIERSHIP!”
(At the 4 minute 11 seconds mark!).
If we can get a couple of players during the window, another forward and a creative midfielder – who knows! Anyway, I am pleased with this news today – and I hope that it is the start of some good times for the club.
