Blues v Boro Brief Post Match Comments

Boy did we need that! No not the nail biting bit, the winning bit!

I thought we did OK over the game. We put a few good moves together in the first half, just the final ball letting us down again. It was deja-vu again, conceding in the first 15 minutes, I wonder when we will keep our next clean sheet. Once again poor defending caused us to have to chase a game again. To be fair though, we have shown that we don’t give in. We should have had a penalty earlier in the half, and King hit the post with a shot. Then right on the break the penalty allowed us back into the game.

I thought we’d come out all guns blazing in the second, but we seemed to be more sluggish than the first. Once again sloppy play by the back four allowed the visitors to take the lead. However a great shot by Elliott and a good move and side foot shot by King gave us a win.

Credit to Clark, he has received a lot of stick. At half time twitter was full of comments criticising him for the substitute. However Elliott’s presence made a big difference once he got into the game. he took Zigic off and bought Lovenkrands on. Those changes seem to give us more balance, and we played some good football going forward. Lovenkrands was unfortunate late on with a one on one with the keeper.

Nice to see the end of the Sky curse for now at least! This is a MUCH needed 3 points, but hopefully a boost to the squad and the manager and ultimately us as fans.

  1. Bob Slay, presumably you’d be sad Zigic scored, Saturday?

Mullins has had his share of criticism, and is a new player so I can sympathise with your views on him, Zigic scored for us in the Carling Cup Final, and – whilst I wouldn’t suggest he’s worth keeping for that reason alone – he has continued to score each season since, despite what people say about him. I for one hope he stays. As for Ibanez, he may well not be at his peak, as per Spanish call-ups, but he’s definitely worthy of a place in our squad. Folks were moaning about Caldwell, then they moaned when Ibanez replaced him. I think suggesting our already thin squad should be thinned further, by suggesting three (two of whom could be classed as first choice squad members!) of them shouldn’t play for us again, is just daft.

    Keep Right On.
