Braga v Blues Brief Post Match Comment

That was a game of “what ifs.’

What if we’d have scored in the 1st 15, what if Zigic hadn’t missed the penalty, what if Ewerton had got sent off, what if the shot hadn’t been deflected. I suppose you could say that in all games though – the what if bit I mean!

We deserved a point from that game, although it would be fair to say we didn’t really test their keeper after that explosive start, they didn’t really test Myhill either.

We worked hard through the game, and never looked like getting “tonked.” Burke looked dangerous on the ball and the defence played well. A special mention to two players I have criticised previously, that being Mr Spector and Mr Davies. Well played tonight fellas.

Murphy also played out of his skin, and I just hope that the knock he got near the end of the game isn’t serious. Myhill also deserves a mention. He was very positive in his box, and was not at fault for the goal.

Jean Beausejour needs a rest though. He had little impact on the game this evening and I think needs an opportunity to freshen up.

All in all not a surprise, but the kick in the teeth for me is Maribor throwing away a 3 goal lead to lose 4-3 to Brugge. This means that even if we beat Maribor in the last game in a couple of weeks, it won’t be good enough if Brugge get anything at home to Braga.

Having said that, I am very proud of the Blues. I think we have competed very well in the competition.

Bazza will be doing a special view from the south in the next day or so.

  1. Yes we can all be proud, at the start of the season who would of thought technically we would have a chance to qualify for the knock out stages. Its just gutting because how well we have played, it makes you believe we should be already through. Here’s to the play offs lads.

  2. I just hope we win against Maribor. A) Because I’ll be there. B) It could be our last ever European match. C) It’d be gutting to win 2/3rds of our away matches and zero home matches (except Nacional!)

That way, if we DID go out, we could blame Braga, and not blame ourselves. Imagine Braga winning and us losing on the 15th?
