It’s that time of the year again when everybody whose team is at the bottom starts looking at the remaining fixtures to see who might be for the drop. I’ve just done the BBC’s Premiership Predictor to try and guess how the table will finish and what we will need to survive. This year though it’s harder to predict as there are so many teams who could end up in the bottom three come 22nd May. With only three points covering the bottom eight and Fulham and Newcastle just hovering above that it could be anybody. What is certain is that someone will be going down with a points total that would have kept them up in recent seasons.
So what will be the total to stay up? My prediction said thirty-nine could be enough if we keep our goal difference in check although forty to be safe. Others have said that maybe as much as forty-three points will be required. I don’t think that is the case because the teams all have to play each other so they can’t all get the points. There will be a lot of relegation derbies in the next six weeks. Of course predicting at this time is never going to be accurate as there are a lot of other factors to consider such as when teams play clubs still in Europe or the FA Cup. Plus we never know which players might get injured or hit a burst of form and there have been a lot of strange results this season. It’s all good fun anyway trying to guess.
Has anyone else done the predictor? How many points do you think will be required? Do you think we’ll get them and if so who is going to go down?
btw I had us to just stay up on forty points with Blackburn, West Brom and Wigan going down.
i did it last week, i cant remeber our points total but i also had Blackburn, West Brom and Wigan to go down.
I had us finishing 17th on 41 points, staying up by a point.
Relegated:
West Brom
Blackburn
Wigan
I might do it again to see if I can get the Vile relegated.
tried to get the vile relegated, we finished 10th with 47 points though, witton rovers finished 12th, and i had wigan, stoke and blackburn to go down.
