We have signed Curtis Davies from our near neighbours. He has signed on a three and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee.
He will be a useful addition to the squad providing cover for Dann. Mind you I’d have thought that Jiranek has earned his opportunity for another appearance after a good game against to West Ham on Wednesday.
It is also being reported that we have signed former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins on a six month loan from Rubin Kazan. There is no news from the Blues yet, however the Russian club appear to have said the deal is done.

Davies will provide good cover but I agree Jiranek should stay in the side. I thought he played well against West Ham.
Martins hasn’t signed yet, due to fly in for a medical on Sunday. From what I’ve been reading there is some irritation at Blues with Sky News jumping the gun saying he’d signed.
I’m with the above – Jiranek played very well on Wednesday and needs a few games to gel with RJ at the back. I can see him getting the nod over Davies initially, especially given that the lad will need to get some Premier League matches under his belt. After being at Leicester he might be off the pace a bit…
When he is fit i wouldn’t be surprised to see Rog rested for a couple of games; he’s been up against it this season, at times looking like he’s carrying an injury – he’s a battler alright but a couple of times on Wednesday he was caught out. Might just need a break, when we can – especially before we face Arsenal.
As for Martins, Blues are right to be peeved with Sky for breaking the news; it’s this kind of reporting (usually via the agent) that has cost us in the past. Let’s hope all goes well on Sunday, we could do with a strong, pacey and skillful striker up top… as long as he gets some goals too!
Wonder if anyone else will be heading to St Andrews before Monday’s deadline? Would be nice…
Blues went into the season light for cover at centre half and Davies is a superb signing. with Ridgewell far better at leftback we can now rotate centrehalves without loosing quality.
As for Martins. he is an exceptional player with great power and skill, but his commitment is highly questionable (the main reason for leaving Newcastle) i’m not sure if he will fit into a team of grafters. i can see some dressing room disharmony, but if he gets his head down and really works for the team, he is the type of player that could be breaking the back of the net on a regular basis, something we haven’t seen at St Andrews for many a long year
