Player of the Decade Results

The winner of our poll with 28% of the vote was Christophe Dugarry just ahead of Mikael Forssell.  I have to say that I am a little surprised by this as I’m not sure that a player who only really played well for ten games can be the best player of the last ten years.  Yes he made a big impact back in 2003 but it was over a very short period.  He only scored one goal for us in the following season which was cut short when we let him go in January.  Does he really deserve the accolade ahead of people who were good servants to the club over a number of seasons?

It’s interesting that the players at the top of the list were all from the Steve Bruce era.  Is that still considered the golden era of the club in recent times?  I wonder if any of the current squad will win this poll in ten years’ time.  Can any of them win the fans hearts in the same way as Dugarry did?

  1. Mine would have been Robbie Savage, up until this year (Ferguson/Bowyer) we never replaced him

  2. I suppose it depends on what people were really voting for. The most talented player to play for us or the player who played the best while with us. If it’s the first then Dugarry wins hands down. the second would be more difficult and would probably be between the Force and Robbie

  3. Very true, best player Ive ever seen since supporting them from early 90’s would probably be the little terrier Jose Dominguez!! Now there was a player, could only last 15 minutes per game but for that 15 minutes it was like watching Maradonna!!!
