We would like to add our condolences to the family and friends and fans of the victims of Chapecoense Football Club in today’s tragic plane crash in Columbia.
Sadly over 70 of those on board have been killed, this included most of the football team. It is believed that 3 players have survived, but at least two of those have life changing injuries.
The side were supposed to be playing in the final of the Copa Sudamericana against Medellin team Atletico Nacional. This is the second biggest cup competition in South American football. The achievement is not unlike that of Wimbledon in the 1980’s here in the UK, as Chapecoense were up until recently, a lower league side.
It is believed that Chapecoense’s opponents Atletico Nacional, have asked for Chapecoense to be awarded the cup. Brazilian clubs have also offered to lend players to them for free for the next year.
The above facts have been taken from a number of news reports.
