What’s going on in the transfer market

Let’s start with the bad news. we’ve missed out on Ronaldo and Kaka who have joined Real Madrid.  Oh well their loss.

On a more serious note Blues seem to be ahead of the game for once when it comes to building a team for the coming season. The three week gap between the end of the Championship and Premiership seasons has given us a head start and allowed our management team to spend more time watching players around the world. Having said that Wolves were promoted two weeks earlier but haven’t really signed anyone yet (Although I read today that they may be looking into getting Nicky Butt!!!). This extra research has already paid off with the signing of Benitez and the reported imminent signings of Giovanny Espinoza and Scott Dann. The list of other possible additions is as long as my arm but I for one do not believe a signing until they are pictured on the official website holding up a shirt and saying how much they are looking forward to playing for such a great club (Even though they had probably never heard of us three days earlier). It does look likely that Joe Hart will be wearing royal blue next season.

With still two months to go to the start of the season there is plenty of time but I do think that it will be an advantage to have the nucleus of the team together throughout the pre-season rather than thrown together at the end of August. This is especially important because we will need a lot of new faces and it takes time for that many new players to gel and for the manager to work out what is his best team. Of course I’ll still be excited to see which loan signings we can acquire from the top clubs on August 31st.

Our relegation rivals have been relatively quiet and it will be interesting too see how many of their players Wigan manage to hold onto and what Roberto Martinez does with the money available. I expect Sunderland to spend big, I wonder if Brucie will call up his old friend Mrs Brady with an offer or two. I’ve not heard a single transfer rumour about Burnley.

The other big transfer news story this week is that we’ve made a £5million bid for Cardiff’s Roger Johnson. From the reports I’ve read it looks like the fee is agreed but there is a sticking point over how much of it is paid up front.

Where are we getting all this money from all of a sudden?
