Birmingham City v Portsmouth Brief Post Match Thoughts

Again I was dependent on Blues World for coverage of the game, so these thoughts are going to be brief.

Sounded a bit of a flat 1st half without us really bothering the keeper. The biggest talking point of the first half, was N’Daw going off after 11 minutes with an injury. Apparently this upset the balance of the side a bit, but Elliott who came on has proved himself to be a dependable and competent replacement. The good news is that it seems that N’Daw isn’t too serious.

The 2nd half started much better and we had much more of the ball. As the half went on we began to build pressure on the Portsmouth goal. We started forcing corners and getting closer, it seemed it was only a matter of time – however the ball didn’t go in.

On the hour, CH bought Redmond on, (just 3 minutes after I tweeted that perhaps it was time! Looks like CH reads my timeline!) Anyway, Redmond replaced King who still appears to be not fully fit.

Just after the sub, Fahey had a shot and then on 70 we had 2 great chances from Rooney and Davies very close to each other. Then Redmond and Mutch went close, when he hit the post – it looked like our 2nd 0-0 at St Andrews in a row, but with just 4 minutes to go, Redmond hit a volley into the net and we were 1-0 up.

We could have added to that with Burke having a chance, but 1-0 was the way it finished and we completed our 7th win in 8 and moved up to 3rd place just 2 points behind Southampton.

I’m loving this season so far!

  1. I’m loving this season so far too (which i didn’t expect to do) – keep it up Blues! I see Milwall beat Southhampton in the cup, away. Not sure how strong the team that Southhampton put out was, but if Milwall can beat them away, Blues can leap frog them into the top 2 (& stay there i hope). Here’s hoping!
