J&S Manager Poll – Who Do YOU Want?

Unfortunately it looks like Alex McLeish will no longer be available as our near neighbours are chomping at the bit to sign him. So who should WE go after. Obviously we are going to miss the silky skills and goals we have been used to, so anyone else is going to be disappointing.

I put the case for Chris Hughton and Mike did the case for Roberto Di Matteo. Other names mentioned have been Dave Jones, Billy Davies, Alan Curbishley and Zola.

I haven’t included Steve Cotterill despite SSN and one football website insisting we have been talking to him.

The previous poll asked:

Who do you most want to keep?

  • Craig Gardner (37%, 164 Votes)
  • Ben Foster (35%, 157 Votes)
  • Scott Dann (20%, 90 Votes)
  • Roger Johnson (14%, 64 Votes)
  • Nikola Zigic (4%, 20 Votes)
  • Barry Ferguson (4%, 16 Votes)
  • Cameron Jerome (1%, 6 Votes)
  • James McFadden (1%, 5 Votes)
  • Total Voters: 446

As you can see Craig Gardner and Ben Foster came top. Best not mention that at the moment eh?

    1. I think all comments have now been made. The need now is to:
      1) Appoint the new manager
      2) Stop buying replacements in attack and midfield until we know our defence for the start of the season.
3)Enforce the contracts of those we must keep, whatever the cost. Only then buy championship or lower division players…..we need a squad for Europe…even if we only play a couple of games.
Just on Gardner.. If he is such a Blues fan, he won a cup with us, how does that compare with his career at Villa.. what will he win with Bruce? only his pay packet. Kook back at Kapo and how long did he keep Palacio ? Better the ‘Devils You Know’

    2. I’d take any of the top three, they all get it down and plays a bit of football which we have badly missed and theyve all worked under restrictions and dealt with difficult boards in the past (I think our owners appears to be the ultimate in difficult).

Lets get it sorted out and quickly, stop worrying about Big Eck(he took us down twice!!)…before all we’re left with is the youth team, the kit man and the tea lady in the squad!!.

    3. It’s kinda fantasy football time atm. Who would I like? A name not mentioned (and please no haters!) is MON. I liked him ‘over there’, he got the youngsters through and seemed to instill a good team ethic. But, that move may just be the straw that breaks the camel’s back in the 2nd City merrygoround! #justsaying

If not him, them Curbs or CH for me.

    4. Can we have Ian Holloway please? Attractive, attacking football. I still remember what that looks like.

    5. Di Matteo would be good a choice for me. We would get some better looking football and more goals!

    6. Can we have Beau Brummie as manager, everyone loves him, i think its Barry fry in that costume you know!! 🙂

    7. People we should consider:

      Gus Poyet
      Roberto Di Matteo
      Gianfranco Zola
Ian Holloway ( a mad manager for a mad club)
      Billy Davies

      People we should not consider:

      Steve Cotterill
Dave Jones (Pleb and BCFC hater)
Fu Man Choo (Carsons mate from Hong Kong)
Chee Pop Shon (Peter Pannu’s mate)
Anyone who has the slightest connection with them Villa b**%$*&s (includes Curbishley).

      KRO & SOTV

    8. Curbishley ? Really ? Can any of those of you advocating appointing this dinosaur honestly say that he’d be your choice if he hadn’t played for Blues ? Come on people, a previous link to Blues is no qualifacation in itself. We need to change the way we approach football both on and off the pitch and we should be looking for one of the new breed of progressive and imaginative young managers. Curbishley is too old, has been out of the game for too long and was hardly associated with free flowing attacking football when he was working. I desperately hope we can do better than him although I question whether the bunch of clowns we have in charge have even the faintest modicum of understanding of our game or our club.

    9. Bluenoses, we have to get on with it. McLeish has gone and, if he goes to the Villa,so what! let’s focus on where we go now and not where we’ve been.

Forget has beens as our next manager, none of, Hughton, Zola, Davies, Jones, etc, will bring exciting, flowing, attacking football to St. Andrews.

What we need is a good young, intelligent, strong up and coming manager who knows the game because he has played it at the highest level and turned a lower league plumetting club into a good attractive solid team. The man I have in mind is Gus Poyet of Brighton. He has had two fantastic seasons with the Gulls. Just look at his record last year when he bought Brighton up as Champions of League 1, to the Champioship for this coming season. Played (League) 46, Won 28, Drawn 11, Lost 7, Goals For 85, Goals Against 40, Points 95. Yes, Gus would be my choice.

    10. in answer to Janek’s point about Curbishley, hhis teams have always played good football. Yes, he has been out of the game for a while but has the necessary experience, not only of getting a team out of the Championship, but also of keeping a relatively small club in the top half of the Premier division for a decade on a shoestring budget.

Compare that to Hughton, relatively inexperienced and the team he brought back up from the Championship was a Premiership team. No players were sold from the team that got relegated and he therefore didnt have to wheel and deal. He then got sacked, although i would agree that it was a little harsh as they were mid table. Di Matteo got WBA up in similar circumstances, no one left the team that got relegated but he did get them up playing attacking football. That said, he was sacked after a worse losing streak than McLeish had- ours was just at the wrong time of the season.

i understand the concern about Curbs being out of the game for a while but i think that his break from football will have increased his desire to deliver and this should only be of benefit to us.

Bring in Curbs, back him and let him take us back up to the Prem!
